Community Reading Partnership

Prescription to Read

Every child receives a new book during the 12-month well-baby visit at the Canandaigua and Farmington Pediatrics Office. As part of the visit, pediatricians give the parents a prescription stressing the importance of reading to their child.

The book donation coincides with a 12-month well-baby visit when there are lots of things for a pediatrician to check as signs of the healthy development of a toddler. They weigh and measure the child to make sure he or she is growing at a healthy, steady rate. They also give the next round of immunizations, plus check the youngster’s hearing and eyesight.
